Get started with a simple consultation
Here’s what to expect
During your visit, we will begin by evaluating both you and your infant’s health history to give context to your breastfeeding needs. Next, I will perform an extensive assessment of your infant and their oral cavity. This will be followed by a complete maternal breast examination. Both assessments will aid in the diagnosis of potential feeding complications. We will work together to establish your ideal feeding environment.
This will ensure that both you and the baby are best prepared for comfortable and productive feedings. I will also be conducting a weighted feeding during our visit. This will help to assess the infant’s milk intake and establish if they are making proper growth development. You can expect to receive an individualized plan of care that will include patient goals, educational resources, and follow up information.
With your consent, your OB/Midwife and pediatrician can receive a comprehensive written report summarizing the goals of care, progress made during the visit, and recommendations for treatment. It is my hope that this visit empowers your family with knowledge and helps establish a plan that meets the unique needs of both you and your growing baby.
Step 1: Scheduling
The first step to getting started receiving lactation consulting to schedule an initial consultation. Check my calendar here
Step 2: Insurance & Paperwork
Next, after confirming the requested appointment, I’ll send you the necessary paperwork regarding your insurance, background, delivery and health history.
Step 3: Background Review
During our initial consult, I’ll spend time getting to know you, your background, and the history of your feeding journey up to that point in time. Breastfeeding is not a one-size-fits-all journey. You and your baby are both unique, and your journey with feeding your new baby will be consistently changing and evolving. To help you find the right path I must first learn about your background, medical history, pregnancy, and delivery challenges.
Step 4: Mother & Baby Assessments
Using my vast maternal/newborn nursing experience with further extensive training in tethered oral tissue (also know as tongue and lip tie) identification and management, I will perform an extensive infant oral assessment and maternal breast assessment to benchmark your progress.
Step 5: Environment & Positioning Setup
We will work together to help best setup your feeding environment with positioning support to best help mom and baby be most comfortable for your feedings.
Step 6: Weighted Feed & Assessment
Using my calibrated scale, we will do a weighted feed to weigh the baby before and after feeding to assess milk intake and develop an individualized plan of care based on our findings.
Step 7: Summary
With your consent, your OB/midwife and pediatrician will receive a comprehensive written report summarizing our visit.
Step 8: Follow Up
As part of your in-home visit, will have access to email and text follow up for any questions or concerns that may arise through your journey.
